Serie A: Como sign Chalobah from Chelsea for £30m

Como have completed the signing of Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea in a deal worth more than £30m.

As reported by BBC Sport on Saturday, the 27-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract with the Italian club, who are preparing for Champions League football after finishing fourth in Serie A last season.

Chelsea will receive an initial £25.7m for Chalobah, with a further £5.1m available in performance-related add-ons following lengthy negotiations between the two clubs.

The move brings an end to Chalobah’s nearly 20-year association with Chelsea. The centre-back joined the club as a child and went on to make 151 appearances for the first team in all competitions.

Chalobah won five trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, including the FA Cup in 2018 and the Conference League in 2025. He also spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, Lorient and Crystal Palace.

The England international, who has earned two senior caps, was also a late call-up to England’s World Cup squad.

Como manager Cesc Fabregas welcomed the signing, describing Chalobah as an important addition who can raise the team’s level.

“Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” Fabregas said. “He is a leader who can raise the level of the team, and I am very happy that he has chosen Como.”

Chalobah said he was delighted to join the club and reunite with Fabregas.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to be here at Como: it’s an ambitious, rising project, and working with manager Cesc Fabregas again is truly special,” he said.

Chalobah now begins a new chapter in Italy as Como look to strengthen their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.
