Ahead of 2027 general elections, a grassroots advocate, Adedotun Adebumiti, has called on the people of the Ondo Central Senatorial District to support the return of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr Ayo Akinyelure, to the National Assembly.
Adebumiti on Sunday emphasised that his decision to drum support for Akinyelure was based on what he described as the former federal lawmaker’s proven track record and accessibility.
Addressing newsmen in Ifedore Local Council area of the state, Adebumiti noted that Akinyelure’s tenure was marked by employment generation and community development projects across all six local governments in the district.
According to him, the move to rally support for Akinyelure is not based on party affiliation but on his history of performance and accessibility.
He argued that the former senator’s open-door policy allowed constituents to easily communicate their needs and concerns, a quality he stressed is essential for effective representation.
While emphasising that Akinyelure’s tenure from 2011 to 2015 was nothing short of transformative, he maintained that the former senator, despite running on a minority party platform, delivered dividends of democracy that touched every corner of the district.
Adebumiti further urged the electorate to look beyond party lines and vote for a candidate with a verifiable record of service, stating that the district yearns for a leader who will deliver tangible development and be accessible to the people.
He argued that Akinyelure’s political journey, which has seen him contest on different party platforms, demonstrates his commitment to service rather than partisan interests.
Adebumiti stated that the former senator’s ability to win elections from minority parties is a testament to his personal appeal and credibility.
According to him, the future of the district must be considered during the 2027 elections; hence, the people must make a choice that will guarantee development and accessibility.
His words: “Akinyelure has credibility and passion. When he was in office, he employed many people, from civil defence to immigration and the police. You cannot go to any local government in Ondo Central without meeting someone who helped secure employment.
“The only empowerment the incumbent senator did was remove some names. In a federal constituency, the youth leader’s name was removed. As a leader, you must serve everyone who works for you, not just your loyalists.”
