Turkey: 'Our defenders will neutralise him' – Fenerbahçe's Muriqi warns Osimhen ahead of Galatasaray clash

Date:

Fenerbahçe forward, Vedat Muriqi has sent out a warning to Victor Osimhen ahead of their clash with Galatasaray in Turkish top flight.

He said the Nigerian international should not expect to find the game easy as his team's defence is capable of silencing him in Monday's derby at Rams Park.

Osimhen has maintained an exceptional record when facing Fenerbahçe, remaining undefeated across five official matches against the Yellow-Navy Blues since his transfer to Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old has recorded two victories and two draws throughout four league encounters, with one goal to his credit.

Osimhen proved instrumental during the 2024–25 season's Türkiye Cup quarterfinal competition, scoring twice as Galatasaray achieved a 2–1 triumph over their formidable adversaries.

Muriqi recognized Osimhen's exceptional abilities yet maintained that collective effort and defensive organization could enable Fenerbahçe to effectively manage the Nigerian striker.

"He's a very strong and good player, but I trust my teammates," Muriqi told beIN Sport, via Turk Inform.

"I think our defensive line can neutralise Osimhen’s quickness and gain the upper hand."

Osimhen failed to score in his preceding two Turkish Süper Lig matches, as Galatasaray obtained victories against Kasımpaşa and Gençlerbirliği.

The Super Eagles forward scored against his former club, Lille in the UEFA Champions League competition, ending his goal drought.
