The statement read in parts: “The police command is aware of a planned protest reportedly organised by a group of Concerned Women in Politics, Lafia Local Government, calling on about 10,000 women to take to the streets on Monday, 17, 2026, to express dissatisfaction over what it described as arbitrary and illegal arrest and detention of suspected followers of retired Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu

“The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, while acknowledging the right of citizens to express their grievances through lawful means, has cautioned the organisers and intended participants against embarking on the planned street protest, particularly in view of the fragile security situation in Lafia and the need to prevent any action capable of resulting in a breakdown of law and order.

“The CP therefore appealed to the organisers and participants to explore alternative and lawful channels for expressing their grievances rather than taking to the streets, as such gatherings could be hijacked by miscreants and may inadvertently infringe on the fundamental human rights of other members of the public, disrupt socio-economic activities, and threaten the peace and security of the state.

“He further urged the organisers to engage the appropriate authorities through dialogue and other legitimate means to seek redress for any perceived grievances.
