CAF Champions League: MC Alger supporters face travel ban call after Abeokuta incident

Date:

Algerian sports analyst, Shuaib Kahal has called for a travel ban on MC Alger supporters following recent incidents involving the club's fans.

The call comes after MC Alger's CAF Champions League second preliminary round match against Nigerian champions, Rangers in Abeokuta, where the supporters of the Algerian club were allegedly involved in unruly behavior.

Kahal said the incident in Nigeria is the latest in a series of violations recorded in Côte d'Ivoire, South Africa and Rwanda during MC Alger's continental matches.

He noted that the repeated misconduct has tarnished Algeria's image abroad, to the point where the Algerian embassy previously intervened to contain a similar case.

According to Kahal, preventing the club's supporters from traveling for away matches would help protect the country's reputation and avoid further diplomatic embarrassment.

MC Alger, which lost 2-0 to Rangers in the first leg, is set to host Rangers in the return leg on Friday.
