Bandits have attacked Dukura community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing two people and rustling livestock and motorcycles belonging to residents.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when the bandits reportedly blocked the road linking the affected communities to Tambuwal market.

The attackers were said to have taken away cows, camels, sheep and motorcycles belonging to some commercial motorcycle operators before security personnel arrived.

The attack also reportedly heightened tension in Dukura, Dalijan and other communities in Girkau Ward, including Zugu, Indire, Mazoji, Tungar Kabawa, Runtuwa, Jabga and Sabon Garin Zugu.

Confirming the incident, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the police received information about the attack and moved to the area.

Rufai said the police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat.

He, however, said the attackers had killed two people before the arrival of the police.

“Immediately we got the information, our men moved to the area and engaged the bandits in gunshots, forcing them to retreat.

“Unfortunately, before the arrival of the police, the bandits had already killed two people and made away with some animals,” he said.

The police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to ascertain further details about the incident and strengthen security in the affected communities.

Recall that no fewer than 10 people were killed and several others were injured after suspected bandits attacked Tofa community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Local sources told our correspondent that between 38 and 40 residents were taken away by the attackers.
