The AIDS Healthcare Foundation Nigeria has opened applications for journalists to participate in a two-month project aimed at promoting ethical and solutions-focused reporting on HIV and tuberculosis in communities most affected by the diseases.

In a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja, the Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, said the HIV and TB Media Reporting Project: Amplify the Response would run from September to October 2026.

According to the statement, the project will support journalists in Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Kogi and Nasarawa states to produce human-centred stories aimed at promoting testing, treatment uptake and public accountability.

Applications for the project close at the close of business on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Interested journalists can apply through the designated application form or submit their documents to [email protected] with the subject line “AHF HIV/TB Reporting Projects.”

AHF Nigeria currently provides free HIV testing, treatment, care and tuberculosis services across its seven states of operation.

While Nigeria has made progress towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, AHF noted that challenges persisted in areas including TB reduction, stigma, misinformation and funding gaps.

“Media is key to closing these gaps,” the organisation said.

The project is designed to equip participating journalists with the science, context and access required to produce accurate and stigma-free reports that centre the voices of people living with HIV and TB survivors.

At least seven journalists will be selected for the pilot edition, with each participant expected to develop and publish two in-depth feature or investigative stories during the two-month programme.

The reporting will focus on areas including stigma reduction, ethical representation and the use of person-first and rights-based language.

Participants will also examine accountability issues, including access to treatment, budget performance and community-led monitoring in AHF-supported facilities.

According to the statement, shortlisted journalists will be notified on September 14, 2026. It added that selection would be based on the strength of the story pitch, which would account for 35 per cent; relevance of work samples, 15 per cent; journalism experience, 15 per cent; gender diversity, 15 per cent; and editor support, 10 per cent.

AHF, described as the world’s largest HIV/AIDS healthcare organisation, provides care to more than 2.9 million people across 50 countries.
