Morning recap: Workers threaten October strike, Igbo traders urged to move beyond Chinese competition, Obi praised for supporting El-Rufai, other top stories

Public servants have threatened a three-day warning strike from October 2 if the Federal Government fails to address demands over petrol prices, a wage award and negotiations for a new minimum wage. The Senate and House of Representatives have also approved another extension of the 2025 capital budget implementation period, although the extension is subject to presidential assent.

In Abia, Governor Alex Otti urged Igbo traders to move beyond conventional trading and focus on manufacturing and digital commerce as competition from Chinese traders grows. Meanwhile, a Lagos teenager detained since 2022 over a case involving slippers has been freed and acquitted after Citizens Gavel took up the case.

Also making headlines, Bello El-Rufai thanked Peter Obi for repeatedly checking on his father during his detention, while Aliko Dangote said his group was prepared to face legal challenges over its planned refinery in Kenya.
