Carabao Cup: Lampard talks up Awoniyi’s performance in Coventry’s win over Plymouth

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has praised Taiwo Awoniyi for his impact in the club’s Carabao Cup win over Plymouth Argyle.

The Sky Blue defeated their hosts 4-2 in a second-round tie on Tuesday night.

Awoniyi scored the curtain raiser for Coventry in the fifth minute following a sublime pass from Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi.

The striker then teed up Jack Rudoni for the second goal two minutes later.

Lampard said the Nigeria international showed his qualities in the game.

“He gets his goal and an assist, and yeah, he’ll be getting fit at this point, but I thought we saw the qualities that we brought him here for,” Lampard said after the game.
