Saraki unveils 500-seater ICT centre built by Bauchi PDP gov candidate

A former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Sunday commissioned a 500-seater Information and Communication Technology Centre built by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Usman Suphi.

Saraki, who was represented at the commissioning by a former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Kawu Baraje, congratulated the people of Bauchi State for having Suphi as one of their sons.

He commended Suphi’s commitment to youth empowerment, education and community development, describing the initiative as worthy of commendation.

Baraje, speaking on behalf of Saraki, said, “Dr Saraki asked me to extend his congratulations to the people of Bauchi for having a great son like Usman Suphi.

“Dr Saraki is known to be an advocate of youth empowerment and education. Therefore, for him to be here today is an honour.

“He expressed his gratitude to Suphi for his foresight, capacity, knowledge and love for his people, which motivated him to embark on this project.”

Saraki also urged youths to take ownership of the facility and make proper use of it to improve their knowledge and digital skills.

Earlier, Suphi said the ICT and Computer-Based Test Centre was not merely a physical structure but a symbol of hope, opportunity and the belief that education and empowerment remained among the greatest investments any society could make.

He said the 500-seater centre was equipped with brand-new laptops for each seat, as well as a Local Area Network and other accessories required for computer-based tests.

According to him, the centre was designed to adapt to changes and innovations in the digital world while improving the exposure of students in Azare, Bauchi State, and neighbouring communities.

“The future belongs to societies that embrace knowledge, innovation and technology. Our objective is to ensure that the young people of Azare, Bauchi State and beyond are not spectators in the digital revolution but active participants and future leaders,” Suphi said.

He added that the facility would enable thousands of students to undertake computer-based examinations with confidence, while providing young people with opportunities to acquire digital skills, professional certifications and competencies in emerging technologies.

Suphi said the project reflected the philosophy of the Assufiyya Humanitarian Foundation that service to humanity was the highest form of leadership.

He noted that while governments had enormous responsibilities, sustainable development could be achieved when communities, philanthropists and institutions complemented public efforts.

He expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations whose support and prayers contributed to the completion of the project, adding that the foundation remained committed to interventions in education, healthcare, humanitarian assistance and youth development.

Suphi also called on governments, educational institutions, corporate organisations and development partners to support initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people.

“Together, we can transform communities. Together, we can shape destinies. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
